New Pedestrian Crossing Lights on Mission Street

Caltrans recently installed new flashing pedestrian lights on Mission Street. The lights were installed in response to calls from Mission: Pedestrian and Santa Cruz residents for more pedestrian safety measures along the newly widened Mission Street. (Click here to read an open letter to Caltrans from Mission: Pedestrian Steering Committee member Debbie Bulger on this subject.)

There are three sets of lights: at Olive, Berkshire, and King by New Leaf. Mission: Pedestrian would appreciate any feedback you may have from using these lights so we can pass your comments on to Caltrans.

Meanwhile, another development in the Mission St. project proves how difficult it can be to defends the needs of a city's main street against state highway standards. Caltrans has balked at installing trees called for in the plans agreed on by the Mission St. Widening Task Force. Click here to read more.
