Common Pedestrian Hazards
Sidewalks are a basic pedestrian facility, yet many neighborhoods in Santa Cruz lack them.
Poorly placed traffic signs and utility poles obstruct the pedestrian right of way, restricting mobility for stroller and wheelchairs users.
A large curb radius, like the one above, requires that pedestrians must walk a lot farther (and be exposed to traffic for a longer time) in order to cross the street. Smaller curb radii are safer. Vehicles can also go much faster around corners with a large curb radius.
